The Black Hills Corporation is celebrating its 135th anniversary.  Headquartered in Rapid City, the Corporation serves one-and-a-quarter million electric and natural gas customers in eight states.

David R. Emery is the chairman and CEO of Black Hills Corporation. He was this morning's guest for the Morning Fill Up at The Garage in Rapid City where the conversation focused on building community, economic development, leadership insights and his family's contribution to the preservation of Lakota language and music.

Large farming operations aren't the only ones contributing to the ag economy. That's what prompted lawmakers to change the classification for ag land for taxation purposes. SDPB's Lee Strubinger introduces us to a small acreage, high variety farmers in the Black Hills who stand to benefit from the change.

A Black Hills Area energy company is getting recognized for their work with a local agency that places persons with disabilities into the workplace.

The Black Hills Corporation received a national award for employing people in their security operations center.

Brad Saathoff is with Black Hills Works, the company that helps place workers with disabilities. 

Saathoff says it’s more than just about the job.

Black Hills Corporation is an energy company based in Rapid City. In February, Black Hills Corp acquired Source Gas in a 1.9 billion dollar deal. The company now serves 1.2 million natural gas and electric utility customers in eight states, including South Dakota.

SDPB’s Charles Michael Ray sat down with Chairman and CEO David Emery to talk about consolidation in the energy industry and the responsibility and challenges for companies like Black Hills Corp regarding renewable sources of energy for customers … and for the climate.
