In The Moment … October 30, 2020 Show 932 Hour 1

The story of the mysterious death of an immigrant servant girl in Sioux Falls gripped the nation with its salacious details of torture and abuse. But perhaps it was the lawyers, the doctors, and the newspapermen whose behavior created the most sensation. Historian and author Wayne Fanebust  has uncovered the story. His new book, published by the Center for Western Studies, is called "No Justice for Agnes." He joins us with a preview.

In The Moment … October 30, 2020 Show 932 Hour 1

Next, we remember Texas country music singer and songwriter Jerry Jeff Walker - best known for his hit song, "Mr. Bojangles," he died last Friday after a battle with throat cancer. He was 78.  Walker moved to Austin, Texas in 1971 -- and had an immense impact on the country music scene there, along with artists like Willie Nelson, creating the genre known as "outlaw country". Matt Weesner talked with South Dakota native Chris Gage, and his wife and musical partner Christine Albert.

In the late 1800s Charles Goss opened the Goss Opera House in Watertown. By the 1930s due to the changing times, the building began to decay and lost its luster. Within the last 3 years, the building has been under renovation and people that were working on this have experienced a piano playing and things moving about with no one else in the building. With Halloween a few days away, time for a good ghost story. Brad Johnson is a member of the "Friends of the Goss" board and joins us with more.
