Large volumes of information are referred to as messy data simply because it's hard to make sense of it all. Each day, the world produces 2.5 quintillion bytes of data. If done right, data visualization tells a story that allows people to deal with large amounts of data. With us to help explain what this means is Omar El-Gayar, he is a  Professor of Information Systems at Dakota State University.
