The Dallas Brass, an internationally known brass ensemble that tours the country, is coming to Sioux Falls this week to perform at Jefferson High School. The ensemble consists of two trumpets, a French horn, a trombone, a tuba, and a percussionist. One of their trumpet players, Luis Cardenas Casillas, grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 2009.

One of the best prep wrestlers in South Dakota history, Nash Hutmacher, is signing with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent. The Polar Bear, as he was nicknamed during his time at Chamberlain high school, went on to play football collegiately at the University of Nebraska following high school.

Cade Lehman, a senior from Custer, is now the all-time state record holder in boys triple jump. His mark on Tuesday at the Douglas Early Bird Track and Field meet was 48-7 1/4. This beat the previous mark of 47-11.5 set in 1991 by Bud Hamilton of Hot Springs.

The state of South Dakota lost a good one last month with the passing of Denis ‘Deny’ Lather. Not only was he quick-witted, funny, and extremely sociable, but his knowledge of sports in the state and his passion for coaching – it’s obvious there can only ever be one Deny Lather.
