Giving Tuesday

  • The South Dakota Day of Giving is a 24-hour extravaganza of generosity, and all the money stays right here at home.In the Moment is dedicating this hour to celebrating nonprofit organizations across the state and challenging all of us to support and amplify their work. It's a day of neighbors helping neighbors.
  • South Dakota Gives is an organization established to make it easy to find and give to South Dakota-based nonprofits.
  • Let's head to Watertown now, this South Dakota Day of Giving, for a visit to the Glacial Lakes Multicultural Center. The mission there is to "welcome the stranger." Brenda Handel-Johnson is a board member and joins us now.
  • Julie Amsberry, Yankton Area Arts Council, joins us to talk about the heavy lifting of keeping the doors open for South Dakota arts foundations. In this case, it's the actual doors that need help. We explore the "Dollars for Doors" initiative and how the historic arts council building needs thoughtful replacement of its exterior threshold.
  • Diane Wade from Dakota Dachshund Rescue joins us to talk about love for all wiener dogs. Dachsies are intelligent and curious, and the group strives to help rescue abandoned, abused, and unwanted dachshunds with a small group of community volunteers.
  • We explore the potential impact of the "Sisters Most Needed Fund" through the work of the Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We talk about helping the most marginalized people in our communities. Our guests are gifts and stewardship officer Jen Rothenbueler and Brooke Nicholson Grote, director of mission development.
