Watertown expands trail system, launches 'no mow' program

The Watertown Parks and Recreation Department is adding new programs and updates this summer.

The Watertown Parks and Recreation Department is adding new programs and updates this summer, including a new disc golf course and a new trail at Lions Park.

Parks and Recreation Director Dusty Rodiek said more trails are needed on the west side of town.

“There’s kind of a neglected area, kind of in between those primary sites that’s going to lend itself well to a single-track trail. Really don’t have a lot of that around here. Watertown’s got a tremendous trail network; pave trails, and things like that. But we really don’t have a lot of single-track opportunities,” Rodiek said.

The city is also implementing “no-mow zones.” The department chose about 20 acres of land spread across town to stop mowing.

It's part of an effort with Game, Fish Parks to attract more pollinators to the area.

Rodiek said Watertown parks users have a lot to be excited about heading into the summer.

“We’ve got lots of things coming, you know, we’re getting into the season and lots of good things happening,” Rodiek said.

The disc golf course should be finished and ready to play on by the end of the week.
