A lucky fisherman set a new South Dakota state walleye record at a recent outing on the Missouri River.

Aaron Schuck of Bismarck, North Dakota landed the whopper while fishing Oct. 27 on Lake Oahe south of Mobridge.

The fish was 33 inches long and weighed in at 16 pounds, eight ounces. South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks verified the catch on Tuesday.

The state’s previous walleye record of 16 pounds, two ounces was set in 2002.
