Judge rules in favor of Sioux Falls school gymnastics program

The Sioux Falls School District will offer gymnastics in the 2023-24 season following a judge’s ruling.

The lawsuit, which argues the killing of the gymnastics team denies young women equal opportunities under Title IX, was filed after the district decided to cut the team in July

Despite the district offering more girls sports than boys, there are over 500 more male athletes across the district. In his ruling, district judge Charles Kornmann wrote team members “would suffer irreparable harm” without the grant of a preliminary injunction.

The first gymnastics competition is scheduled for late November.
