On Wednesdeay night, the University of Nebraska hosted an iconic, record breaking crowd at Memorial Stadium for a volleyball match between the Cornhuskers and the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
At a venue that is typically the home of football games at Nebraska, fans packed in to celebrate. In might have started off as a way to showcase one of the best volleyball teams in the nation, but it resulted in a full fledge celebration for the sport that reached world status.
Nebraska freshman Bergen Reilly saw significant playing time in Wednesday night’s contest. Reilly graduated from O’Gorman this past spring, and last fall capped off one of the most impressive prep volleyball careers in state history with high school, club, and national experience.
Here she is scoring a point for the Cornhuskers in the second set.
And here she is setting up a kill.
Reilly finished the 3-0 sweep over Omaha with a team leading nineteen assists. She also contributed seven digs, three kills, and a block in the match as well.
O'Gorman also had representation on Omaha's squad with freshman sisters Meghan and Makayla Tiahrt.
Wayne State and Nebraska-Kearney also played a match on Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium, prior to the nationally televised game between the Huskers and Mavs. Havyn Heinz and Ally Berseford of Dakota Valley are members of Wayne State's team.
