Winner Area senior Kaden Keiser won his fourth individual state wrestling championship at the 2022 state tournament in Sioux Falls.

On Friday night during the championship session, Keiser defeated Jackson Remmers, a sophomore from McCook Central/Montrose, in the 145 lb title match.

For Keiser, with this being his fifth time on this stage, he leaned on experience.

“[Remmers’] been here before, but I’ve been here five times, so I knew I’d have a little bit experience over him,” Keiser stated. “And I Knew the nerves would be going through him a little more than me, so I took that to my advantage and went out there and performed.”

Keiser came into the 2022 state tournament as the defending champ in his weight class. He also won titles in the 126 (sophomore) and 120 (freshman) as well.

He knew scoring would be key, so Keiser went out to make it his primary strategy.

“I just went out there. I stayed on my takedowns. I knew [Remmers] would be hard to turn, so I just wanted to keep scoring,” explained Keiser. “I kept letting him up and taking him down to keep scoring.”

Keiser was victorious by a 15-6 major decision. He’s now just the 17th ‘B’ wrestler in history to win at least four-state championships for a high school career.

“I’m a lot more humble than grateful for everything. You know, friends, teammates, all of them. I wouldn’t be here without them.”
