Menno’s Morgan Edelman Reaches 2,000 Career Points

Morgan Edelman Joins the 2,000 point club

On Thursday night, Menno senior Morgan Edelman joined one of South Dakota’s most elite groups when it comes to high school basketball, the 2,000-point club.

It was almost exactly two-years ago when Edelman scored her 1,000th career point during her sophomore season, and last year, as a junior, she became the all-time leading scorer in Menno girls’ basketball history.

Edelman entered Thursday’s game with 1,993-points, needing just seven to break the through the barrier. The milestone was reached with 4:08 to play in the first quarter as Edelman retrieved an offensive board with a put back.

According to the Freeman Courier, Menno superintendent Tom Rice gave this statement on the PA system at the Marion gym on Thursday after the 2,000-point mark was hit.

“This is what can happen when you devote yourself to something bigger than yourself. It’s not about one person. In order to achieve these heights, it takes a whole team. Congratulations, Morgan,” said Rice.

The Wolves defeated Freeman Academy/Marion 48-13 in the ball game and Menno finishes the regular season at 13-6, second place in Class B Region 5.
