University of South Dakota senior track and field star Chris Nilsen has broken the NCAA indoor record for the pole vault event.
On Friday afternoon in Nebraska, Nilsen cleared the bar at 19 feet, 5 ½ inches. This tops LSU’s Mondo Duplantis’ record from last year by a centimeter – according to the University of South Dakota Athletic Department.

Nilsen, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, is a three-time NCAA Champion. It’s the 14th time in his career that he has cleared the 19 ft mark in the pole vault event.
