South Dakota wildlife officials are reporting that 26 mountain lions have been killed so far during this year’s hunting season at the Black Hills Fire Protection District.

The harvest limit for the season is 50 female mountain lions or 75 total. The South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Department issues an unlimited amount of licenses to state residents each year.

Since 2005, South Dakota has had a mountain lion season, which runs year-round outside of the Black Hills area of the state. On March 31, the season will end for the Black Hills district, unless the harvest totals are reached before then, in which case the season will end early.
