SD Hall of Fame inductee seeks to help every child succeed

On today's show...

SDPB’s Lee Strubinger brings us an update on the Acey Morrison case. Morrison was shot and killed last year by a man who says he acted in self-defense.

We then discuss four steps anyone can take to save a life. Vanessa Barnes, assistant director at the Division of Behavioral Health, shares how to have mental health conversations with teens as they head back to school.

Thea Ryan also talks about going back to the classroom. But she’s focused on an older demographic.

Ryan is director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of South Dakota. And she joins In the Moment with the highlights of this year’s course list.

Pamela Homan, Ph.D., kept one kind of student in mind during her time in K-12 education in South Dakota. She focused on helping the students who were coming to school with what she called a backpack full of problems.

Dr. Homan is being recognized for her work helping every child succeed. She’ll be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame next month.

Klaire Lockheart has been arranging cheeses all morning to create “fancy Lunchables” for the Packard Group National Exhibition 2023 opening reception on Friday. She takes a break to preview the temporary outdoor exhibition.
