This interview originally aired on In the Moment on SDPB Radio.

Magdalena Osburn, Ph.D., left microbial samples underground for what was supposed to be six months. She hasn't been able to return for four years.

Dr. Osburn is the experiment principal investigator for the Deep Mine Microbial Observatory at the Sanford Underground Research Facility and an associate professor at Northwestern University.

She discusses the experiment and the minerals that exist far underground. Plus, she introduces us to the tiny microbes surviving down there.
