This interview originally aired on In the Moment on SDPB Radio.

All scientists use data in their experiments. But they don't record or report their data in the same way.

A South Dakota Mines researcher is building a geologic data library to help solve that issue. She describes the data like stories that need to be recorded in a common language.

Gokce Ustunisik, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at South Dakota Mines.

She hopes the library will give researchers a better understanding of what's going on deep inside the Earth.
