South Dakota Mines researcher studies volcanic remnants on Mars

This interview originally aired on In the Moment on SDPB Radio.

Planetary geologist Gokce Ustunisik, Ph.D., recreated the volcanic conditions on Mars in her lab with graduate student Alexander Rogaski. They even produced some Martian minerals during the simulation.

Dr. Ustunisik is an associate professor at South Dakota Mines. She joins In the Moment to share what she learned from the experiment and how its lessons could be applied to Earth's volcanoes.
