New Laura Ingalls Wilder Programs Premiere on SDPB-TV
Local Production of The Hard Winter follows National Ingalls Documentary
Two new Laura Ingalls Wilder programs premiere Tuesday, December 29, on SDPB1 and SDPB.org.
American Masters Laura Ingalls Wilder: Prairie to Page traces the life behind the bestsellers, exploring a rags-to-riches story embraced by millions of people worldwide, taking an unvarnished look at an unlikely author whose autobiographical fiction helped shape American ideas of the frontier and self-reliance. A Midwestern farm woman who published her first novel at age 65, Laura Ingalls Wilder transformed her frontier childhood into the best-selling “Little House” series. The documentary delves into the legacy of the iconic pioneer as well as the way she transformed her early life into enduring legend, a process that involved a little-known collaboration with her daughter Rose.
American Masters Laura Ingalls Wilder: Prairie to Page premieres Tuesday, December 29, at 7pm (6 MT) on SDPB1-TV and SDPB.org/live/tv/.
Directly following the American Masters documentary is the television broadcast premiere of the 49th Annual Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant The Hard Winter.
Performed this summer in De Smet as a radio drama, local actors offer their take on the book The Hard Winter 80 years after its original publication. The program is made possible by the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant board, pageant directors, performers, and local organizations.
The 49th Annual Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant The Hard Winter airs Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 8:30pm (7:30 MT) on SDPB1-TV and SDPB.org/live/tv/
