SD House Wants US Congress To Repeal The Affordable Care Act

The South Dakota House of Representatives is urging congress to repeal and defund the Affordable Care Act. Proponents of House Concurrent Resolution 1028 say it’s important for the national government to know, South Dakota lawmakers do not agree or support the legislation known as Obamacare. Opponents like Democratic State Representative Bernie Hunhoff say the resolution is a waste of time because there is little chance of seeing the Affordable Care Act overturned.

"This is so full of political language that it should almost carry a disclaimer and we’ve got to vote on a lot of things to implement the Affordable Care Act. As the resolution indicates, we’re going to vote on all sorts of things we have in the past years. All I want to say is, I’m the first to say it’s not perfect. We’ve got to make it work the best we can, working together republicans and democrats," Representative Hunhoff says.

Hunhoff and other opponents say it’s important for the South Dakota legislature to put more attention on the bills at hand, rather than debating a resolution with little chance of impact. HCR 1028 passed the State House of Representatives 36-28.
