The Scott Holt Band

This week, we're featuring the Scott Holt band, recorded live at Jazzfest, presented by the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society, at Yankton Trail Park on July 19th, 2013. Scott Holt was raised in Tennessee. Hearing Jimi Hendrix for the first time proved to be a turning point in his life. He didn't get serious about playing an instrument until he was 19, when his parents bought him an electric guitar. A year later, Holt's father took him to see Buddy Guy. He met Guy that night and received a private guitar lesson from the blues master himself. While Guy was touring, Holt would sit in frequently on stage with Guy and one day, Holt was asked to join Buddy Guy's band. For ten years, Holt toured with Guy. At the same time, he started writing his own songs which he eventually recorded when the band was on break from international touring. To this day, Holt and his band have been expanding the parameters of the blues. Holt has learned from the likes of Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, and Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora.
