School of Mines ranked top engineering school for ROI

South Dakota School of Mines & Technology

The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology was ranked as the Best Engineering School in the country for Return on Investment by the website College Factual.

The University’s low tuition and average rate of pay for graduates are factors in the ranking.

Dr. Lance Roberts is the interim provost for the School of Mines. He says Engineering jobs are important in the current state of the economy.

"The growth in the number of jobs, growth in the number of areas within engineering and science definitely leads us to be a great career option," says Roberts. "We hope that that, in combination with being on these sorts of rankings, lead to a greater enrollment.”

Forbes Magazine also puts the School of Mines ahead of all other South Dakota colleges.

The school’s placement rate for recent graduates is 97%, with an average starting salary of more than $63,000
