Rodney Berget's New Hearing

The South Dakota Supreme Court has ordered a new sentencing hearing for convicted killer Rodney Berget. He pleaded guilty to the murder of State Corrections Officer Ronald Johnson in April, 2011. In its 65-page ruling, justices agreed with the Circuit Court judge on most points - but said statements made to a psychiatrist shouldn't have been considered in the penalty phase. The Supreme Court has sent the sentencing back to the Circuit Court to consider Berget's fate without the statements to the psychiatrist. The Circuit Court Judge could still sentence Berget to death for his role in Johnson's killing. SDPB News Director Cara Hetland joins Dakota Midday to discuss the new sentence.
