Rick Weiland Wants To Debate Mike Rounds

Democratic US Senate Candidate Rick Weiland says the Republican front runner is misleading South Dakotans about the affordable care act.  Weiland also wants a debate on the issue. He was in Sioux Falls Tuesday calling out Republican Senate Candidate Mike Rounds on his recent TV ad. Weiland wants to debate Rounds before the Republican primary.

Senate Candidate Rick Weiland's campaign revolves around changes in Washington DC. Weiland says South Dakotans are disappointed in congress and feel the average citizen has no voice. Weiland says taking control back starts with stopping big money.

"I want to invest in renewable fuels, I want to invest in conservation. You know we can do that, but as long as the big oil companies are standing in the way, it's going to be hard to get that done," Weiland says.

Weiland says he wants to debate Republican senate candidate Mike Rounds about his recent TV Ad. He says the Ad is not true by saying Obamacare robs $716 billion from Medicare. Weiland says this is a blatant attempt in political gain by scaring seniors.

"As I was going up and down the streets of Hill City and Custer, people saying, that's really not right that he's scaring seniors with his ad, what are you going to do about it? I mentioned I was considering doing a press conference and trying to get my word out without a lot of big money behind paid advertising," Weiland says.

Weiland says Rounds should defend his one hundred thousand dollar TV Campaign. He says South Dakotans deserve a debate on this issue.

"Weiland: I really think the people of South Dakota really deserve that kind of honest, open, public forum, a discussion about the issues. We're going to have differences and we may find some things that we agree upon, but I think we both have a responsibility to call each other out," Weiland says.

Weiland agrees it would be odd if a two party debate took place before a primary election, but he says this whole election process has been unique. He says he hopes to get a yes response from Rounds. Weiland says Rounds TV Ad should be taken down because it's not true.

Rounds has not returned a call to comment at this time.
