Rapid City Police Investigate Shooting Death

Early this morning Rapid City Police responded to a shooting in North Rapid City. Police officers found a 21-year-old male on scene with three gunshot wounds, he died at the scene. In addition, a 69-year-old male was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Tarah Heupel is with the Rapid City Police Department.

“The man in the hospital we’re still trying to determine exactally what his involvement is but at this point we don’t think there is an active public safety threat.  So we don’t think there is a shooter on the loose at this point, nothing for the public to be worried about,” says Heupel.

Heupel says the Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate, and anticipate releasing additional information later today.

A second shooting was also reported in Rapid City– but it was accidental.  A 50 year old man was trying to show someone his handgun.  Heupel says he didn’t realize the gun was loaded and shot himself in the hand.
