Pierre And Canton Win State Wrestling Championships

SDPB
The Canton C-Hawks win the Class B State Wrestling Title

Pierre in Class A and Canton in Class B are champions in State Wrestling. The state tournaments concluded at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City on Saturday night.

Last season, Canton was ranked first, but then fell to third at state. The C-Hawks co-head coach Jeremy Swenson says it’s a fantastic feeling to answer this season with a state title. Swenson appreciates the support the team received from the many Canton fans, who made the 350 plus mile journey across the state for the event.

"We’ve got amazing crowd support. I can’t even imagine… it’s hard to believe what we got coming here," explains Swenson. "The noise that we get made here, it just jacks our kids up. We have adrenaline rolling at probably three levels higher than the other kids that are here."

Swenson says other fans in attendance were also impressed with those from Canton.

"We’ve had some moms from other schools tonight come up for their kids in the finals and ask if they’d cheer for them," says Swenson. "Just because they didn’t have a cheering section and they really wanted their son to win. So, that was really cool to have that happen."

Swenson says he’s also proud of his seniors, and the leadership they provided throughout the season.
