New 4-H Exhibit Hall In The Works

The state’s 4-H clubs will have a new exhibit hall at the South Dakota State Fair, if Governor Dennis Daugaard signs a bill calling for an appropriation.
Bill sponsor Dick Werner told the House of Representatives Thursday that the 33,000 square foot exhibit hall is funded with private donations, and the state is just giving spending authority.
He says the new building replaces the existing Clover Building, which is slated for demolition.
“A new 4-H exhibit hall will put displaced 4-H activities under one roof, provide a safe and secure location for these exhibits and activities, including performing arts, shooting sports, special foods, judging contests, Skill-a-thons, fashion review, dog and cat shows, and speaking contests, to name a few,” he says.
Werner says ongoing maintenance and repair comes from the State Fair budget.
Werner also successfully supported a bill to build housing for inmates at the state fair. He says they have bunked at the National Guard camp in the past, but that option no longer exists. He says funds for that housing unit also come from private donations.
These two Senate bills, now that they have cleared the House, go to the Governor for his signature.
