The Joys of Mentoring Kids

DakotThere are currently eleven hundred adults in the Sioux Falls area mentoring kids as a part of Lutheran Social Services’ Mentoring Services. But with more than 500 young students on a growing waiting list, the organization has launched a campaign to recruit 500 additional men and women willing to serve as mentors over the next three years. Kerri DeGraff and David Benson are both serving as mentors in Sioux Falls.

DeGraff is development director at Feeding South Dakota. She previously worked for the Sioux Empire United Way. She’s mentoring a student at Memorial Middle School. Benson is on Senator Tim Johnson’s staff. He has several years experience working in politics and on political campaigns. He’s mentoring a young student at Cleveland Elementary. They joined Dakota Midday and discussed their experiences serving as mentors for young students.

You can find information about the mentoring program online.
