Johnson Announces Retirement

Senator Tim Johnson announced that he is stepping down from his post in the U.S. Senate at the end of this term.

Johnson began his career with seven years of service in the State Legislature.   He then jumped to the U.S. House in 1987.  Ten years later he landed a seat in the U.S. Senate.    He is the current chair of the Senate Banking Committee.

“And it is time for me to say goodbye.  I will not be running for re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2014 or any other office.  I look forward  to serving my remaining two years as the country is facing difficult time, on many fronts, and I will work every day to find bi-partisan solutions to these challenges,” says Johnson.

Johnson never lost a political race in South Dakota.   He plans to focus on water issues, education, and healthcare during his remaining time in office.

Johnson says after retirement he plans to spend more time with his family.
