Hardrocker Vs Yellow Jackets Game To Be Broadcast On ESPN3

The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology

Hardrockers and Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets have a rivalry that dates back 130 years. This is the longest standing rivalry in N-C-A-A Division two college football.

ESPN3 will broadcast the competition for the Homestake Trophy this year and receive national attention.

The Hardrockers verses the Yellow Jackets game has been named The Black Hills Brawl – The Battle for the Homestake Trophy. It is the kickoff game for the N-C-A-A Division two Game-of-the-Week Series.

Stacy Collins is the football coach for the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Hardrockers. He says the ability to get the exposure from ESPN and social media is priceless.

“That rivalry’s always going to be there. It’s amplified when you get a lot more eyes that re going to be on it. The O’Harra Stadium is going to be an electric atmosphere on September 12. So, I think our players already know what this game is about. That Homestake trophy is something they want to bring back to Rapid City. But certainly with that ESPN piece giving exposure to the game, that’ll amplify it,” says Collins.

He says he expects attendance to be higher and thinks the two teams will put on a good competitive show.

John Reiners is the coach for the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets. He says being able to play on live television is a great opportunity for both schools.

“What a great feather in both of our team’s cap to be able to have an opportunity to play on live T.V. ESPN—every kid dreams of that. So we’re very excited about that opportunity,” Reiners says.

He adds that the Hardrockers verses Yellow Jackets game always plays a roll in schools success for the season.
