One high school volleyball player welcomed weekend weather that made it difficult for fans, teams, and officials. The 2016 state volleyball championships took place in Huron, Watertown, and Brookings over the weekend. A Northwestern High School student celebrated the snow.

Fernanda Orsi is a senior setter for the Northwestern Wildcats. On Saturday, Her team defeated the Chester Area Flyers in four sets to win the 2016 Class B state volleyball championship.

Orsi is foreign exchange student from Brazil. She says coming to the United States to finish high school was a bit scary.

"At first it was really different, because it was totally different volleyball and team," says Orsi. "But then I got to know everyone. The team is fantastic, they welcomed me so well, and it was just overwhelming."

Orsi didn’t just win her first state championship this weekend – it was also the first time she had ever seen snow. She scrambled outside after the Thursday night snowfall.

"I was the first to wake up, and then I went out and played in the snow for like two hours straight," says Orsi.

Orsi says the snow and state title make this weekend a lifetime memory.
