DeBoer Discusses SD Humanities Council's Efforts

As executive director of the South Dakota Humanities Council, Sherry DeBoer oversees the South Dakota Festival of Books, which over the past decade has drawn thousands of readers together with such authors as Sherman Alexie, Pete Dexter, Roy Blount, Ted Kooser, Dave Eggars, Peter Heller and Walter Dean Myers. The council's own book, "What Makes A South Dakotan?" was honored with the 2013 Award of Merit by the American Association for State and Local History. DeBoer discussed the South Dakota Humanities Council's work in promoting books and reading and preserving stories, local culture, voices and history.
