Casey Kawaguchi Adds Work To Art Alley

Out-of-state artists traveled to Rapid City recently to make public art with spray paint. They worked with the Dahl Fine Arts Center to paint murals in Art Alley. Casey Kawaguchi is a Denver based artist. He painted a one-story tall female samurai warrior drawing out her sword. The black, white and red image is a character Kawaguchi says represents himself.

“I’m hoping that not only the beauty of it but technically how it’s painted, the precision and stuff is always something that I’m trying to inspire people through. Whether people spray paint or not, but I’m always kind of painting for other artists that recognize all those little tiny details and the little technical parts of it.”

Art Alley runs on a permit system through the Rapid City Arts Council and building owners. The piece is available until it’s painted over by another mural.
