Big Sioux River, Tributaries Closed By Executive Order

South Dakota Civil Air Patrol

Governor Kristi Noem says in a statement that closing the Big Sioux River, Skunk Creek, and Split Rock Creek is being done to ensure people's safety.

Noem issued an executive order banning recreational use on the three waterways in Lincoln, Minnehaha, and Union Counties on Tuesday.

The order took effect immediately.

Officials with Game, Fish, and Parks will enforce the closures. The statement from the Governor's office reads those who violate the order may face criminal penalties.
