America’s founding documents are on display to see at the National Archives in Washington D.C. But for the community of Winner, those documents are coming closer to home.
The Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence are coming to the Tripp County Courthouse.
Brenda Muhs helped bring the charters to Winner. She says there’s no better place to put these documents than next to the Tripp County Veterans Memorial.
"The kids need to understand these people that are on the memorial that fought in these wars from Tripp County," says Muhs. "This is what they defended. That will bring it together for the kids.”
The replicas of the documents are dedicated by a non-profit called Foundation Forward out of North Carolina.
Its purpose is to broaden the knowledge of Americas founding documents for those who might not be able to visit the National Archives.
Mike Unruh is with Foundation Forward. He says he hopes people interested in seeing these documents get a better sense of pride and patriotism.
"No matter if you’re a student, or if you’re a veteran, or a first responder, or just any citizen of the community, just seeing these documents and reading these words that still apply today, and have been used as the model for countries all over the world to gain their independence and forming their own democratic governments, that makes it very impactful,” says Unruh.
Foundation Forward already brought the documents to the state. Clark County has been displaying the replicas since last November.
The dedication ceremony takes place at the courthouse following the Labor Day parade on September 2nd.
