Ahlers To Run For Senate In 2020

Adria Botella

Former democratic state legislator Dan Ahlers will announce plans to challenge U-S Senator Mike Rounds on Monday.

Rounds is up for re-election in 2020. Republican state lawmakers Scyller Borglum has also announced a bid for Rounds’ seat. Rounds has not indicated whether he plans to run in 2020.

Last year, Ahlers was selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program, an annual seminar sponsored by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation.

Ahlers spent six years in the state house and senate before losing a re-election bid in 2018. Ahlers was edged out by Republican Representative Tom Pischke by 98 votes for a seat in District 25.
