Rendering of the SHED at the state fairgrounds in Huron, South Dakota

Gov. Kristi Noem has signed a bill funding the construction of a multi-purpose facility on the grounds of the South Dakota State Fair.

The law gives $4 million from general funds for The SHED, which will be the new home for open class sheep.

It will also include a show arena and an educational center.

The total price tag for the project is $8 million. Along with public money, the project is funded by private donations through the “Raise the SHED” campaign.

Groundbreaking is set to coincide with the 2024 State Fair.
