The State Senate Affairs Committee passed a bill to make Tribal identification cards viable in the voter registration process.

Currently, tribal IDs are accepted at the polls but denied at the registration office.

“This is a great way to help resolve this issue, and make sure we can find ways to use Tribal IDs when they can work with the system that we have," said Sen. Wheeler of Huron.

Senate Bill 119 was brought forward by Sen. Shawn Bordeaux and supported by the Secretary of State Department and the ACLU.

The committee passed the bill unanimously. It now heads to the Senate floor.
