Noem order merges Bureau of Human Resources, Bureau of Administration

SDPB

Gov. Kristi Noem is combining the state Bureau of Human Resources and Bureau of Administration into a single office.

Noem signed an executive order Tuesday creating the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration. It's set to take effect in 90 days unless the legislature rejects it, according to the order.

“Cutting unnecessary government red tape makes state government more accessible for the people of South Dakota,” Noem said in a press release. “By combining two bureaus, we are streamlining procedures and prioritizing the core functions of state government.”

Darin Seely, the current head of the Bureau of Human Resources, will serve as commissioner of the newly formed bureau.

This isn’t the first time Noem has merged state agencies. The governor combined the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Environment and Natural resources in 2021.
