South Dakota Rep. Dusty Johnson is voicing his support for the newly elected Speaker of the House.
Johnson was one of the votes in favor of fellow Republican Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana, who was elected Wednesday on a party-line vote.
The election ended weeks of disorder after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted. Three other Republican congressmen tried and failed to win the seat.
Dusty Johnson was vocal in his frustration over the weeks-long stalemate, telling SDPB last week the nation – and South Dakotans – deserve better.
“I’m proud to vote for Rep. Mike Johnson for Speaker,” Johnson said in a statement released following the vote. “Now we can put these unfortunate three weeks behind us and get back to work to address the southern border, $33 trillion of national debt and a looming government shutdown.”
