Jason Salamun delivers his acceptance speech to his supporters on election night.

After a recount, Jason Salamun has been confirmed to be Rapid City’s next mayor. The count did not change results in any precinct.

The recount was called by second-place finisher Laura Armstrong, who finished within 270 votes of Salamun. State law allows for a recount whenever second place finishes within two percentage point of the winner in the final tally.

The recount process, which was overseen by a city official and a representative from either candidate, took less than three hours. There is currently no cost estimate for the recount.

Salamun takes the oath of office at the July 3 city council meeting.
