House Health and Human Services Committee hears testimony on HB1080 from the bill's prime sponsor, Rep. Bethany Soye. It passed the committee 11 to 2 and went to the House.

This segment originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

No matter if it's in committee or on the floor, House Bill 1080 ignites fiery debate wherever it crops up. The bill would prohibit certain gender-affirming medical or surgical interventions for transgender minors.

After the House debate, representatives voted 60 to 10 to pass HB 1080. It then headed to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, which advanced it to the Senate with a vote of 4 to 2. The bill passed in the Senate today and is headed to Governor Noem's desk.

Listen to its supporters and opponents debate the bill in the House.
