Clay County passes bond for new jail

Deuel County

Clay County residents have voted in favor of a bond that will fund a new jail and public safety center.

In a vote of 60 percent in favor, the project has the greenlight.

The current jail is more than 110 years old. Local law enforcement agenciescalled on citizens to vote in favor of the bond.

The $42.8 million bond will raise taxes for residents.

The project will create a new home for the administrative offices and jail currently housed in the Clay County Courthouse.
