Smith camp updates finance filing

Steve Munsen

Democratic Governor Candidate Jamie Smith has filed updated campaign finance filings less than 24 hours after certain information was reported missing.

State law requires name, amount and address for all political contributions totaling more than $100 dollars.

Smith’s initial filing was missing addresses. State law gives campaigns seven days to fix any filing errors after discovering omissions and inaccuracies.

Republican incumbent Gov. Kristi Noem’s campaign previously called for an investigation into Smith’s campaign filings. The state’s Republican party chairman filed a campaign finance complaint against the committee.

Smith called the omission a clerical error and says his campaign is transparent.
