Sen. Rounds added to Russian sanctions list

Another member of South Dakota’s congressional delegation, U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds, has landed on Russia’s sanctions list.

The Republican senator has been critical of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

He joins fellow South Dakota, Republican Rep. Dusty Johnson, on the list.

Rounds says he struck a nerve with the Kremlin.

“In terms of what it was precisely that made them focus on us as opposed to someone else? We have no idea," Rounds said. "It may have been our legislation restricting Russia, along with China, Iran and North Korea from buying ag land or ag business. But it might also be the fact that I’m on armed services and I do the cyber work on armed services. Plus, it might have been the stuff on foreign relations as well.”

Rounds joins several other U.S. Senators on the Russian’s list, including both Republicans and Democrats.

Russia invaded Ukraine earlier this year. The U.S. has responded with sweeping economic measures against the superpower. The U.S. is also supplying Ukraine with arms and artillery.
