The Democratic candidate for South Dakota governor is announcing his running mate for November.

Jamie Smith is choosing fellow House lawmaker Jennifer Keintz to run for lieutenant governor.

Keintz is from Eden, in the northeastern part of the state.

She serves on the House Education and Health and Human Services committees.

Keintz was first elected to the Legislature in 2020.

Democrats will hold their convention this weekend in Fort Pierre, where they will choose candidates to run for constitutional offices.

Smith is running against the incumbent Republican Gov. Kristi Noem, and Libertarian challenger Tamara Lesnar.
