Dakota Political Junkies

In The Moment … September 16, 2020 Show 903 Hour 1

South Dakotans are closely following the details of the final hours of Joe Boever's life. Boever is the man who was walking on the side of Highway 14 west of Highmore around 10:30 p.m. when he was struck by a car driven by South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg on Saturday. Ravnsborg has since released a written statement in which he details the evening and reports that, at the time, he thought he had hit a deer. Ravnsborg says he discovered Boever's body the following morning when he stopped, once again, looking for the body of a deer. Boever was dead. The investigation is ongoing.

Today we talk about that inter-agency investigation, the press conferences with Governor Kristi Noem and South Dakota's Secretary of Public Safety Craig Price, and the politics of a fatality.

Joining us for that conversation, today we welcome Jon Hunter, publisher of the Madison Daily Leader. Also with us, Mike Card, associate professor of political science at the University of South Dakota.
