Governor Kristi Noem is calling on state legislators to approve $3.2 million dollars for a new recreational center at the Ellsworth Air Force Base.
Noem says the center is estimated to cost $12.7 million dollars. She says the Department of Defense and Pennington County will help with the remaining costs.
Noem says the recreational center will replace another on-base facility to accommodate a new stealth bomber unit from the Air Force.
“Ellsworth is undergoing a lot of construction in the near future because of the B-21s being a part of the mission at that base. Over a billion dollars will be spent just in construction costs alone getting ready for this mission.”
The governor says the facility will offer a year-round space that is open to the Box Elder community, AFB military members and their families.
