Former Centerville Mayor Jay Ostrem is indicted on nine felony counts in the shooting deaths of three people. On Memorial Day, police responded to a Centerville home after receiving a 911 call. They arrived and found three dead.

In three counties, hand-counting was on the table this primary election. Across the state — they each fell short.

Five tribal nations formally sign an agreement Thursday with the Black Hills National Forest for co-stewardship of the Pactola Visitor Center. The Black Hills are sacred to the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota.

South Dakota leaders are reacting to President Biden's executive order restricting asylum at the southern border. The state has been active at the southern border, spending more than $2 million in aid from its emergency fund.
