This summer's presidential primary is the first national election since South Dakota banned ballot drop boxes in 2023. State Senator Shawn Bordeaux worries about the ban's potential effects on voter turnout.

The level of assets held in South Dakota trusts is jumping significantly. Last year, state officials reported a slight dip in trust assets—the first since the housing crisis in 2008.

South Dakota voters could weigh in on whether to legalize recreational marijuana for the third time in as many elections. Advocates say they've submitted just over 29,000 signatures to the Secretary of State's office to place the question on the November ballot.

$13 million has been invested in the Red Cloud Indian School—also knows as Maȟpíya Lúta. The money came in the form of tax credits from BlueHub Capital, a community financing nonprofit.
