On today's update...

Governor Kristi Noem is calling a joint session of the state legislature to brief lawmakers on the US southern border in Texas. The session will take place on Wednesday, 2 pm CT.

Former South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg is facing a disciplinary hearing before the state Supreme Court in mid-February. The case stems from Ravnsborg’s role in a fatal crash that ultimately led to his impeachment and removal from office.

A teacher facing sexual misconduct charges involving a student is no longer employed by the Watertown School District. The school board voted unanimously to accept Jordan Bakken’s resignation.

A legislative committee is advancing a bill requiring the state Board of Elections to meet before the beginning of each legislative session. Senate Bill 123 received unanimous support from the Senate State Affairs Committee.

From Minnesota to Connecticut, states are taking a hard look at reassessing their symbols, including flags. But a push to get South Dakota to join that conversation fell flat in the legislature.

Lawmakers voted down a bill allowing counties to participate in the state’s Obligation Recovery Center or ORC. The ORC acts like a collection agency to collect delinquent accounts owed by citizens or entities in the state.

And more.
